Good morning Campers – today we have come back down to earth, after our adventures in space, and we are exploring the skies closer to home. I thought we would start off this morning with a drawing workshop, learning to draw things in the sky and things that fly! So let’s get going.

I have how to guides for kites, airplanes, jets, helicopters, hot air balloons, and a bird, plus some more drawing games for you to try out. Have fun!

How to Draw a Kite

Thanks to Rauno for this Easy Drawing Guide on how to draw a basic kite! Of course, kites don’t always come in that standard diamond shape, so you can draw your kite however you would like.

How to Draw a Flying Bird

This is a good tutorial to follow to draw a flying bird, videos are handy, because you can watch it, pause it when you need to, go back and look again, etc… Give it a try!

A Few More Drawing Games

I meant to include more drawing games during Art Camp, and only managed to include 2: Fill Your Page, and Simon Says – Drawing Edition!

Here are a couple more for you to try drawing

  • with your eyes closed
  • with your non dominant hand
  • with both hands
  • with your feet
Another fun drawing game, is to stick or hold a piece of paper on your partner’s back, whilst they have a piece of paper to draw on in front of them, like stuck to a wall… then you draw a picture a bit at a time, and your partner has to try and copy the drawing by feeling what you are drawing on their back! It can be absolutely hilarious!

Lunchtime Viewing

Today I have 2 films for you. The first Fear of Flying. Its very funny.

I guess it has adult undertones, tho in my humble opinion they are subtle and would go over kid’s heads anyway, otherwise its just a sweet and funny film about overcoming fears (or not!) and being resourceful!

The second film is Miss Todd by Kristina Yee. I think it’s a wonderful story, with clever animation and a wonderful soundtrack.

“It’s 1909, and the whole world is waking to the possibilities of flight. Miss Todd dreams of flying, but she’s got more than gravity holding her down. This is the story of her determination, her perseverance, and her passion – inspired by E. Lilian Todd – the first woman in the world to build and design an airplane.”
