ART CAMP IS BACK WITH A TWIST IN FEBRUARY HALF TERM!

We are super excited to be bringing Art Camp back in February Half Term - this time there's a bit of a twist, and all will be revealed very soon!

WHAT IS ART CAMP?

Creative Kids Art Camp is an exciting holiday activity programme that takes place at Umberleigh Academy, where children get to enjoy enriching and authentic art activities, which nurture and enhance creativity, expression and artistic techniques. And, of course its loads of fun!! Art Camp is recommended for 5 – 12 year olds.

Art Camp ran throughout the summer holidays, and we had so much fun! You can see pictures from our sessions, along with reviews if you scroll down.

HOW DOES THE DAY GO?

We adopt a flexible, child led approach to the flow of activities, and follow the Waldorf ethos of a ‘rhythm of the day’ to inspire and organise the way the camps work. With this in mind we have a loose schedule which the children will fill with their enthusiasm, energy and ideas. However, a huge amount of planning goes into each day, with lots of inspiration, guidance, ideas and specific activities mapped out and prepared for!

Every session will be different – this session will be split into two themes. In the morning we will be making art around the topic, “This is Me”, and in the afternoon we will be exploring “Autumn Expressions”.

Whilst everyone arrives we start the day with colouring and playdough. This allows children to warm up their hand muscles and provokes their creative minds, and means we have a calm and quiet room for new children to be welcomed into. We have morning break, lunch break and a short afternoon break so children can refuel, play and have a good run around (if they want to!).

We believe in providing a full day of creative opportunities by offering prompts, materials, time, space and encouragement! We will be outside as much as the weather allows!

WHO IS LEADING ART CAMP?

Katherine is an artist and photographer – and Mum of  two – working and living in North Devon. She has a BA (hons) in Performance, an MA in Fine Art, and an MFA in Photography. Katherine also has many years experience in education; working in a variety of settings from nurseries and preschools to SEN schools and Autistic classrooms, as well as being a hands-on parent to Jake and Poppy. She is passionate about art and creativity, and their positive effects on wellbeing, health, development and education, and has published writing on this topic extensively, and was featured the Early Childhood Educators conference in the USA.

Katherine is DBS checked, and has training in first aid, food hygiene, and safeguarding. Additionally she has training in autism awareness, Team Teach, Teacch, PECS, Makaton sign language, and conductive education. My child absolutely loved every session. So impressed to find someone who knows how to welcome children with a wide variety of disability and accept their needs as "normal". Highly recommend - we're looking forward to the next one.
