AN INNOVATIVE CLUB FOR KIDS
We are excited to bring you an exciting new activity for budding engineers, inventors, creators and Lego buffs!
WHAT IS LEGO SENSE?
Lego Sense is an innovative club for children aged 4 – 12 years old. Currently we run sessions from Umberleigh Academy on a Monday, in Bideford on a Tuesday, and Torrington on a Wednesday.
Lego Sense is a Lego building club, with an engineering and creative focus. Led by a qualified vehicle technician, and assisted by a professional artist, the sessions will encourage children to invent, explore, investigate, and discover how and why things work, with a freedom to create and learn with a sense of wonder!
WHAT DO WE DO?
Quite simply, we build Lego! But, we build and create with purpose! We build to learn about engineering, mechanics, construction, physics, aesthetics, design, practicality, logistics, and lots more!
We will work individually and collaboratively to explore deconstruction, writing and drawing instructions, branding our creations, cataloguing inventions, annotating designs, and planning and organising ideas.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE CLUB?
We start with welcoming everyone to the club, before embarking on a 10 minute challenge to get our hands building and our brains in gear! Examples of these challenges are to build a solid bridge using only 20 bricks, or to replace the Eifle tower using as many colours as possible
Next we will move on to our creative or engineering project; which will include making a functioning zip-wire, a moving car, a tree house, or herd of animals! This project may be individual or in groups, and will include all STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, maths) elements, supporting their education in these areas.
After this we will explore our non-building skills, which include technical drawing, instructional and creative writing, designing, photography, and project planning.
When time allows we will end the session with some free building – where our engineers can use their skills to create whatever they want, enjoy time with their friends, and explore their own interests with any guidance they may want!
